We took a week away to visit Long Beach, WA. It is the longest beach in the world at 28 miles long. You can't swim there, one because the water is so cold, and two because the undertow from the mouth of the Columbia River would drag a swimmer out to sea. All 3 kids had a lot of fun digging in the sand and avoiding the waves if they happen to slowly simmer up the beach. One of Alexa's new favorite phrases is "Beach!"

Here is the view from our Surfside Condo, which of course includes Dan's new favorite camera toy (yup, the panorama shot!)
We spent a day in Astoria, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The Maritime Museum was excellent and they didn't even kick us out when the kids ran around and screamed a lot. The Astoria Tower had a great view, however the planes you can purchase to throw off the top were rather disappointing. Drew's plane took the longest flight. Maybe it is just that Mom and Dad tried too hard when throwing the planes. Being the movie geeks that we are we saw the Goonie house and the house from the Short Circuit movies, but we only took pictures of the Goonie house.
Fort Stevens State Park outside of Warrenton, OR had some great beaches to wander around on. We watched some guys use big kites to surf on an inner bay. We also saw a shipwreck right on the beach. Next time we will spend more time here, perhaps we will camp here as they have a huge campground.
We drove down to Seaside twice during the week. The beach here is great! We flew some kites, played tag, built a sand castle, fed some seals at the Aquarium, and walked around the downtown area. We are definitely going to stay at the resort here in the future, it is right on this wonderful beach.
Cape Disappointment is on the North side of the Columbia River. We hiked out to two of the lighthouses, which wound up making Daddy really tired instead of the kids. Drew could walk for miles, and Daddy is a sucker for her Princess so guess who got carried all day? We also found out that Drew is the best in the family at flying kites.
When on vacation, we always eat really well and spoil ourselves. We of course pass this onto our wonderful kids!
