The Ballpark in Arlington - May 8, 2002

During our three week sentence in Richardson, we of course fit in a game at the home of the Texas Rangers. This ballpark is quite nice, it is all by itself with lots of open space and parking lots (!) unlike Safeco Field, which was built on a parking lot. There was even a cute Little League ballpark, which we neglected to catch a photo of. It is way too hot in Texas, as you can see we were glistening with sweat in all the photos. We were disappointed with our seats, they were tucked way under cover and with obstructed views due to support poles. We only sat there for a couple of innings, before wandering around the stadium. In center field, they have a great kids area where they can hit whiffleballs in a mini ballpark (Drew was not old enough for that and Dan was too old!), but we did the speed pitch and batting cages, as you see below. We enjoyed kicking back on a picnic bench with a good view of the whole park before hitting the Rangers Store for the requisite souvenirs. It was surprising how small their store was, considering they need to find some way to pay for Arod's salary. The good news is that the Rangers lost and we managed to reach the car and get on the road just before an approaching thunderstorm.

Home Plate entrance, as we made our way from the parking lot (about 1 mile one way!)

Six Flags, which we could not visit due to Gen's condition (pregnancy)

View from our seats, there was a pole just to off left edge of this photo

Sweaty Drew, enjoying some cold Dr. Pepper

Pay-Rod swinging and missing

Drew wanted to play wiffleball, notice Dan was sure to wear all his Mariner's gear

Batter up! Drew actually hit the ball each time

Grip it and Rip it!

View from above the vistor's bullpen, there was a decent crowd here tonight

Statue of Nolan Ryan in dead Center Field, pretty cool actually. I am waiting for an Edgar statue at Safeco!
